Who we are
Cranky Kraken Games LLC is responsible for the personal information described in this notice. Our registered address is 75 E 3rd St, Ste 7, Sheridan, WY 82801, USA.
For privacy questions and requests, email privacy@crankykrakengames.com or write to our registered address. This notice covers crankykrakengames.com, our newsletter and inquiries sent to us. Kickstarter operates separately, as explained below.
Information we collect and why
When you subscribe, we process your email address, subscription status and relevant subscription information to manage and deliver the newsletter. When you contact us, we process your email address and the information you choose to provide so we can respond.
Our hosting provider may process technical information such as IP addresses, request times, requested pages, browser details and diagnostic or security logs to deliver and protect the website. We use limited, temporary request records to reduce signup abuse and repeated submissions.
If you accept optional website tracking, we process the Google Analytics and Meta measurement information described below. We also store your privacy choice so we can respect it.
Where applicable data-protection law requires a legal basis, newsletter delivery and optional website analytics and advertising tracking are based on consent. Responding to inquiries and operating and protecting the website rely on our legitimate interests in communicating with you and running a secure service. We may also process information where necessary to comply with legal obligations.
Newsletter and email engagement
We use Brevo to manage subscriptions and send game news, campaign updates and welcome messages. You can unsubscribe using the link in our emails or by contacting privacy@crankykrakengames.com. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
Newsletter permission is separate from optional website analytics and advertising tracking permission. You can subscribe while rejecting website tracking.
Our newsletter emails may include Brevo tracking images and tracked links that let us measure opens and clicks, understand engagement and improve our messages. These tools may associate an interaction and its time, along with available technical information, with your email address. Email privacy features and automated link scanners can affect these measurements, so they are not a reliable record of every action you take.
The website’s privacy controls do not control tracking within emails. You can contact us with questions or requests concerning email engagement information. Unsubscribing stops future newsletters; it does not by itself guarantee immediate erasure of all information held in email-provider systems.
Optional Google Analytics website measurement
With your optional website tracking consent, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand visits, pages viewed, clicks to our Kickstarter project and verified new newsletter registrations. This helps us understand how people find and use the website and improve our products. A measured Kickstarter click does not mean that you followed or backed the project.
Google receives event information, cookie-based browser and session identifiers, page titles and addresses, referral and campaign information, and technical information such as browser, device and network details. Your browser connects to Google’s servers, exposing its IP address; Google can derive approximate location from network information. Our explicit events omit arbitrary URL query strings and fragments, and we do not send newsletter email addresses, hashed emails, subscriber IDs or form contents to Google Analytics.
We use GA4 for website analytics, not Google advertising personalization or retargeting. Our website tag disables Google Signals and advertising-personalization signals and keeps Google advertising consent denied. The Google tag is not loaded before valid analytics consent. Without JavaScript, newsletter signup remains available but does not send a browser GA4 registration event.
Google processes analytics information under its applicable service terms and privacy information, including international processing as described below. You can decline or withdraw optional website tracking using Privacy choices. Google also provides an Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Optional Meta advertising measurement
With your optional website tracking consent, we use Meta Pixel to measure page visits and clicks to our Kickstarter project, and Meta Conversions API to report verified new newsletter registrations. This helps us understand advertising performance. A Kickstarter-link click is not treated as a follow, pledge or newsletter registration.
Pixel sends information from your browser, which can include the page visited, event details, browser and device information, IP address and cookie identifiers. For a permitted newsletter-registration event, our server sends a normalized, SHA-256-hashed email address, event ID and time, originating website URL, browser user agent and genuine Meta browser or click identifiers when available. Hashing does not make an email anonymous: Meta may match it with information it already holds.
We use this integration for advertising measurement, not to create website-visitor retargeting audiences. We do not upload our newsletter lists to create customer-list Custom Audiences or seed lookalike audiences. These choices do not prevent Meta from using permitted measurement information for its own purposes as described in its privacy policy, including matching activity, advertising, measurement and security.
Meta’s handling of information, applicable Meta entity, retention and international processing are described in its privacy policy and business-tool terms. You can reject this website’s Meta tracking without losing access to the website or newsletter.
Cookies and your privacy choices
Our Accept and Reject buttons apply to both optional Google Analytics and Meta tracking together. Newsletter subscription permission is separate. We use the first-party cookies ckg_marketing_consent and ckg_analytics_consent to remember your choice for each service. Each contains a signed choice, notice version and timestamp and lasts up to 180 days. They are not advertising identifiers. We also use a local-storage notification to let other open tabs know when your choice changes; that notification contains only the time of the change.
If you accept website tracking, Google Analytics may set _ga to distinguish browsers and _ga_XS7F49SG3L to maintain session state. Google documents a default expiry of two years for these cookies, which can be renewed with activity. Browser restrictions or service settings can shorten their lifetime. Cookie expiry is separate from Google’s retention of information already collected.
If you accept Meta tracking, Meta may use persistent cookies such as _fbp to identify a browser for advertising measurement and _fbc to retain relevant Meta advertisement-click information when present. They remain until expiry or deletion; browser restrictions and subsequent activity can affect their lifetime. Your browser’s cookie settings show the current expiry, and Meta’s cookies policy explains its cookie practices.
Optional tracking requires valid saved permission for the relevant service. Accept saves permission for both services; Reject declines both. Older Meta-only permission does not authorize Google Analytics, and we ask again if a choice is missing or differs between services. You can change or withdraw your choice through Privacy choices in the footer or the controls below. Rejecting tracking does not prevent browsing or subscribing. If JavaScript is disabled, our Meta tracking-image fallback still requires a previously saved, valid acceptance; Google Analytics is not loaded.
Withdrawal stops future optional measurement from this website and clears the applicable first-party Google Analytics and Meta cookies. A previously loaded tag may process a consent-state update. Withdrawal does not retract information already transmitted, and requests already in flight may finish. You can also delete or block cookies through your browser, although deleting consent cookies means we can no longer remember your choice.
Service providers and other disclosures
We use Vercel for hosting and server functions, Cloudflare for DNS, Google for business email and optional Google Analytics website measurement, Brevo for newsletter management and delivery, and Meta for optional advertising measurement. Cloudflare currently provides DNS only and does not proxy the website or its signup requests.
These providers process information as necessary to supply their services. Depending on the activity, a provider may process information on our instructions or for its own purposes, such as service security and legal compliance. Their published policies describe those practices; they do not replace our responsibility for the information we control.
We do not give advertising agencies, freelance marketers or publishing partners access to our subscriber information. This does not exclude the providers described here or disclosures required by law. We may disclose information where necessary to comply with legal obligations or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
How long we keep information
We keep subscriber information while needed to manage an active subscription. We review subscribers after 24 months without meaningful engagement and remove them unless there is a documented reason to retain them. We do not rely on email opens alone to determine engagement.
We delete resolved general contact inquiries 12 months after resolution, unless they are needed for an ongoing relationship or legal obligations. Email-delivery and engagement information is retained according to its continuing purpose, subscription status, security needs and applicable legal requirements, rather than a single fixed period for all records.
The consent cookies last up to 180 days. Temporary signup-abuse and duplicate-submission records have a one-minute validity window and are cleared on subsequent requests or when the server instance ends. We do not maintain a separate database or durable retry queue of website measurement events.
Google Analytics user- and event-level information is retained according to the property’s configured retention period and activity-reset settings. Standard aggregate reports are not subject to the same retention setting and may remain available longer. Google Analytics cookie lifetimes are described above; deleting a cookie does not itself delete information already held by Google. Contact privacy@crankykrakengames.com for information about the current retention settings or to request deletion of information we control.
Service-provider systems may retain operational, security, backup or legal-compliance information under their applicable service terms and policies. A dashboard’s log-viewing window is not a guarantee that all provider-held information has been deleted. Meta applies its own retention criteria to information it receives. Contact us to ask about retention or request deletion of information we control.
International processing
Cranky Kraken Games LLC is a US company, and the business is managed from North Macedonia. Your information may be accessed or processed in those countries and in other countries where our providers and their subprocessors operate, including countries in the EEA. Those countries may have different data-protection laws from your own.
Our providers publish information about their international-transfer arrangements, including contractual protections such as standard contractual clauses and, where applicable, adequacy frameworks. Which arrangement applies depends on the provider, service and transfer. You can contact privacy@crankykrakengames.com for information about safeguards applicable to your information.
Your rights and complaints
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or obtain a portable copy of your information, object to certain processing, withdraw consent, or opt out of certain advertising-related disclosures. To exercise your rights, email privacy@crankykrakengames.com. We may need proportionate information to verify a request and will respond within the time required by applicable law.
You can reject optional Google Analytics and Meta tracking together using Privacy choices. Where a statutory right to opt out of sale, sharing or targeted advertising applies, you can also contact us to exercise it. Our use of Meta measurement should not be understood as a promise that no advertising-related disclosure could fall within those legal definitions.
You may complain to the relevant privacy authority, including an EEA supervisory authority where you live or work or where an alleged infringement occurred, the UK Information Commissioner’s Office, or Australia’s Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. You do not have to contact us first where the applicable complaint process permits you to complain directly.
Children’s privacy
Our newsletter is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect children’s personal information through newsletter registrations. If you believe a child has subscribed, contact privacy@crankykrakengames.com so we can investigate and delete their information as appropriate.
Kickstarter and changes to this notice
Kickstarter operates separately under its own privacy policy and tracking choices. Our project uses Kickstarter’s native Meta integration; our website does not report pledges or follows on Kickstarter’s behalf. Following a link or being redirected after newsletter signup takes you to Kickstarter, where its policies apply.
We update this notice when our practices change. The date above identifies the latest revision. We will provide additional notice or obtain consent where required.
